Spain are world Cup champions for 2010!! For the first time in their history, the flair filled Spanish soccer team will take a FIFA World Cup Winner’s medal home after winning the finals of this year’s World Cup in South Africa. The game at Soccer City was a hotly contested affair so much that by the end of the first half, referee Howard Webb had issued 5 yellow cards and a multitude of free kicks. At the resumption of the second half, the situation got even tenser as each of the teams huffed and puffed as they tried to break the deadlock. After 90 minutes of great football, both teams could not find goals and so the game went into extra time. Littered with plenty of yellow cards for both teams and a red card for John Heitinga, there was plenty of struggling in the contest. It was a 115th minute goal from Andre Iniesta that settled the score after a sublime pass from substitute Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish team are now champions of Europe and champions of the world.
